Silverware

With its glistening finish that catches the light, silverware can look magnificent when it is properly cared for, but a polished sheen can also serve to highlight any flaws or tiny imperfections in the metal. When this happens, prized family heirlooms and other precious treasures can become eye-catching for all the wrong reasons.

At Farcroft Restorations Group, our precious metals experts work across all silver, silver alloy and silver-plated metalware to revive items ranging from tea sets, tankards and military medals, to musical instruments, preserving them for historical record and for future generations to enjoy.

Cleaning Silver

When silver corrodes, its surface can become tarnished, meaning its sheen dulls and its finish becomes marked.

Using specialist techniques, our silverware experts can remove corroded layers and apply silver polish to restore items to their original appearance.

Restoring Lacquer Finishes

Lacquering is a popular technique we often use in our own silver restoration services to offer items – particularly those that are on display – longer-lasting protection against corrosion and tarnishing. However, as beneficial as the lacquer coating is for the silver, it too can be vulnerable to deteriorating over time.

Where items have previously been lacquered but the lacquer has become tainted with age, we work to carefully remove the affected layer and clean the item, before applying a new protective coating.

Silver Restoration

As well as cleaning silver and restoring lacquer finishes, our restoration team can repair more extensive damage to silverware items.

Our silver restoration services include removing dents or scratches in the metal, and replacing any missing or damaged sections with new metalwork to match the original in composition and appearance.

Working with our colleagues in Farcroft’s gilding team, we can also repair and re-gild missing embellishments where required.

Finally, we can restore the finish of silverware items through thorough polishing, for heirlooms that look as good as new.

Years of expertise have led us to develop specialist techniques, enabling us to undertake many different types of restoration
